KeymasterIf you are starting your credit journey from zero, it generally takes anywhere between three and six months of credit activity for you to get a credit score. That’s a good rule of thumb, but everyone’s finances will be a little different. For example, the three to six-month time frame will be accurate if you start from having no credit score. It could take more or less time to see a difference in your score if you have one already.
So, it takes up to six months of using a credit card for credit bureaus to give you a score, but if you want to set yourself up for success when that score is calculated, keep a few key things in mind.
- Pay your balance on time – Making on-time payments is an important factor for your credit score.
- Keep your utilization low – Ideally, you should only be using around 10% of your credit limit. If your line of credit is $1,500, try to keep your statement balance at or below $150.
- No new credit – Keep the credit accounts you have, and hold off on any new credit applications
