Getting a free credit report helps you keep track of your finances and make sure there are no errors affecting your credit score. Here’s how you can get your free credit report and who you should contact.

    1. AnnualCreditReport.com: The easiest and most reliable way to get your free credit report is through AnnualCreditReport.com. This site is authorized by the federal government to provide free credit reports from the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
    2. How Often Can You Get It?: By law, you’re entitled to one free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus every 12 months. This means you can get three free reports per year.
    3. How to Request Your Report:
      • Online: Visit AnnualCreditReport.com and follow the instructions to request your credit report.
      • By Phone: Call 1-877-322-8228. You’ll need to verify your identity by answering some security questions.
      • By Mail: Download the request form from the AnnualCreditReport.com website, fill it out, and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service P.O. Box 105281 Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
    4. What Information You’ll Need: Be prepared to provide your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth. You may also need to answer some security questions based on your credit history to verify your identity.
    5. Review Your Report: Once you have your credit report, review it carefully. Check for any inaccuracies or signs of identity theft, like unfamiliar accounts or incorrect personal information.

What to Do If You Find Errors: If you find any mistakes, you have the right to dispute them. Follow the process for disputing errors with the credit bureau that issued the report.
