Why isn’t my credit report accurate or up to date?

Is your credit report correct?

According to the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), over 10,000 financial institutions send reports to the major credit bureaus every month. Mistakes on your report could negatively impact your score, so it’s important to make sure your information is always accurate! Watch out for these common errors:

Personal information

  • Errors like a wrong name, phone number, or address
  • Accounts belonging to someone with a same or similar name to you
  • Identity theft

Account status

  • Closed accounts still reported as open
  • Incorrect dates for on-time or missed payments, or opened accounts
  • Same debts listed multiple times

Balance errors

  • Incorrect current balances
  • Incorrect credit limits

The more you know, the more prepared you are when making financial decisions. You can check your credit score at any time by logging into your Kikoff dashboard. You can also dispute errors on your credit report for free with Kikoff (even if you’re not a member yet!). It will never hurt your score, and the process only takes a few minutes.
